These papers contain two items. The first is a travel journal by Richard Higgins while traveling through Europe. Dated 1854, Higgins describes traveling by ship and train, hotels, food, shopping, socializing, descriptions of historic sites and events, etc. Higgens traveled from Kentucky to New York, England, France, Belgium and Germany. Journal also includes a brief description of his 1876 trip to New York. The second item is an account ledger dated 1833-1857 for a plantation referred to as the "Arkansas Farm". The ledger includes building and furniture accounts, overall plantation costs, a list of negroes and property, the purchase and sale of slaves, and a listing of the overseers employed on the farm.
